What this result means
The estimate adds extra material for cuts and waste, then multiplies the adjusted area by unit price.
How the Flooring Calculator works
Installation, underlayment and delivery are not included.
The calculator does not fetch live prices or rates. That is intentional: you provide the tariff, price, rate or cost that actually applies to your situation, which makes the assumptions visible and avoids presenting stale market data as current.
How to get a more useful estimate
- Measure each room and sum the areas rather than estimating the whole property from floor dimensions alone.
- Complex layouts and diagonal patterns may need a larger waste allowance.
- Check whether the quoted material price includes underlay, trims, delivery, or taxes.
Scenario check
Once the calculator gives a material cost, convert the required area into the package sizes actually sold by the supplier. Flooring often comes in boxes, planks or rolls, so the purchase quantity must be rounded to whole packages. Pattern matching, room shape and future repair stock can justify a different waste allowance from the default.
Important limitations
- Installation, underlay, trims, adhesives, and delivery are excluded unless included in the unit price.
- The tool assumes one material price across the whole area.
- Package sizes may require buying slightly more than the calculated area.
Frequently asked questions
Why add a waste allowance?
Cuts, defects, pattern matching, and future repairs can require extra material beyond the exact measured floor area.
Is 10% always enough?
No. Simple rectangular rooms may need less, while complex layouts, patterns, or fragile materials can need more.
Can I use price per square foot?
The page is labeled for square meters. Convert your area and unit price consistently if your supplier quotes square feet.
