SmartCostTools is an independent collection of free planning calculators. It exists to make common cost questions easier to understand without hiding the assumptions behind a recommendation engine.

What SmartCostTools does

Each tool turns a small set of user-entered assumptions into an estimate, then explains the formula, limitations and practical context. We intentionally avoid pretending to know your local tariff, interest rate, fuel price or tax rules when those inputs vary by person and place.

What SmartCostTools does not do

SmartCostTools does not provide individualized financial, investment, lending, legal, tax, engineering, medical or other professional advice. It does not guarantee savings, investment returns, loan approval, energy performance or business outcomes.

How tools are reviewed

Calculator outputs are generated from deterministic formulas, not from a generative AI answer. Before release, formula cases, page links, metadata and calculator defaults are checked against the formula shown on the page. Editorial explanations are reviewed for consistency with the calculation and its limitations.

How the site is funded

SmartCostTools is designed to be free to use. The site may use advertising in the future to support hosting, maintenance and new tools. Advertising does not determine calculator formulas or editorial conclusions.

Commercial independence

SmartCostTools does not sell loans, investments, energy contracts or contractor services. If advertising is enabled, advertisers do not receive control over formulas, rankings or editorial conclusions.

Corrections

If you spot a formula issue, unclear assumption or accessibility problem, use the contact form. Material corrections are prioritized because a calculator is only useful when its logic is understandable.
