Monthly balance
—
Estimate only. Check the explanation and limitations below.
FormulaMonthly balance = take-home income − housing − food − transport − other spending.

What this result means

A positive result is money left after the categories entered; a negative result means those expenses exceed take-home income.

How the household budget calculator works

A positive balance can fund savings and emergencies. Review irregular annual expenses separately.

The calculator does not fetch live prices or rates. That is intentional: you provide the tariff, price, rate or cost that actually applies to your situation, which makes the assumptions visible and avoids presenting stale market data as current.

How to get a more useful estimate

  • Use after-tax take-home income for consistency.
  • Convert irregular annual bills into monthly averages and include them in other spending.
  • A positive balance is not automatically “spare money” if you still need to fund savings, debt, taxes, or future large expenses.

Scenario check

Treat the balance as a planning snapshot. If it is positive, decide whether irregular bills, debt payments, savings and annual expenses have already been included before calling the remainder disposable. If it is negative, change one category at a time to identify which assumptions drive the shortfall rather than cutting every category by an arbitrary percentage.

Important limitations

  • The categories are intentionally broad and do not replace a detailed budget.
  • Investment returns and debt-interest changes are not modeled.
  • Cash-flow timing within the month is not shown.

Frequently asked questions

What should go into other spending?

Utilities, healthcare, childcare, subscriptions, insurance, debt payments, entertainment, and any other regular or averaged expenses not listed separately.

Should I use gross salary?

Usually no. Take-home income gives a clearer household cash-flow picture.

What if the result is negative?

Review the categories, verify the numbers, and identify which expenses or income assumptions can realistically change. The tool does not provide personalized financial advice.
